Baby Born 15 Pounds, 7 Ounces
One family in England will be bringing home a cute little bundle of joy, however, he won’t be so small. Last month, Ryan and Jade King from Bristol, gave birth to George King, who is the second largest baby in England’s history.
Weighing in at 15 pounds and 7 ounces, the doctors were stunned when they realized that this baby would be nearly three times the size of an average newborn. The delivery became complicated, when little George’s shoulders became stuck in the birth canal. “At that point about twenty doctors surrounded us. It was really scary,” Jade stated in a recent interview.
Upon delivery, the newborn was wisked away for observation, transferred to another hospital, and was intially given a 10% chance of survival.
Thankfully, little George continued to thrive and was recently discharged from the hospital. “He didn’t fit into any of his newborn clothes,” Jade said. “He went straight into three to six month clothes.”
According to guinnessworldrecords, little baby George isn’t even close to the world record:
Giantess Anna Bates (née Swan) (Canada) (1846–88), who measured 2.27 m (7 ft 5.5 in), gave birth to a boy weighing 10.8 kg (23 lb 12 oz) (length 76 cm (30 in)) at her home in Seville, Ohio, USA on 19 January 1879, but the baby died 11 hours later.
The heaviest baby born to a healthy mother was a boy weighing 10.2 kg (22 lb 8 oz) who was born to Sig. Carmelina Fedele (Italy) at Aversa, Italy in September 1955.
Anna Swan was born on 6 August 1846 at Mill Brook, Nova Scotia, weighing 18 lb. Full grown, she reached 7 ft 5.5 in (228 cm); her husband, Martin Van Buren Bates, was born on 9 November 1837 and was reported to reach 7 ft 11 in, although was probably more likely 7 ft 2.5 in. They married at St Martins in the Field in London on 17 June 1871. Combined heights: 14 ft 8 in.
