WAYNE COUNTY, UT (KTVI) – A Missouri man has died while hiking in Canyonlands National Park in Utah.
Grant Welland, 73, had been hiking alone and was reported missing Friday. He was supposed to be out of Horseshoe Canyon by July 28.
Wayne County officials said sheriff’ deputies began searching for Welland early Saturday morning. They found his vehicle at the trailhead. Due to weather conditions, the terrain and the uncertainty around the time of when he went missing, a helicopter was used to help in the search.
Welland’s body was found around noon on Saturday.
An autopsy will determine how he died.
Deputies say he had plenty of water and good hiking shoes.
